About the bike

1996 Kawasaki ZZ-R1100D4

The 1993 ZZ-R1100D1 was a heavily revised version of the model. Power increased by 20 bhp, largely through a redesigned ram-air system with twin front intakes in place of the C model's single slot. It also received a redesigned fairing, a larger 24-litre tank, a new seat and tail unit, an all-new frame with a visible rear subframe casting, and a fuel gauge.

For 1996, the ZZ-R1100D4 brought colour and graphics changes. Available in red or green, the full-power model was claimed to produce 147 bhp, enough to make the ZZ-R the world's fastest production motorcycle at the time.

The story

A landmark superbike

The D-series brought a major redesign to Kawasaki's ZZ-R1100, including the twin-intake ram-air system and a new frame. The D4's 1996 update was limited to its colours and graphics. With a claimed 147 bhp, the ZZ-R1100 was one of the defining high-performance production motorcycles of its era.
